Historical. This Monday, May 20, our Valparaíso Port Terminal received the Delphinus Leader, a Japanese-flagged ship that transported a total of 2,324 vehicles, distributed over 14 floors.

It was in November 2013 the last time that a ship of these characteristics called at the port, which is why the arrival of this car carrier has revealed an unprecedented operational strategy and marks the beginning of a new era for this line of business in the region.

“It is a great milestone for Valparaíso to resume the unloading of vehicles, boats and trucks that is currently being carried out at site 8. Today, by having greater facilities in the port and better transfer capacity, we have the option of making room for this type of ships”, highlighted the general manager of TPV, Rubén Ramírez.

The operation took place at the port breakwater in 3 shifts of 7.5 hours, with an average unloading of 700 vehicles per shift. Among them are cars, trucks, cars of different types, boats and other small boats.

The arrival of the Delphinus Leader comes amid the renewed management promoted by TPV since the start of the concession in March 2022, reaffirming its value proposition as a multipurpose terminal for Valparaíso,

“The port has a wide jetty, with enough space to serve this type of ship, including direct access roads to Santiago. We are very happy because thanks to the commitment and experience of operators, customers and shipowners we have been able to take advantage of the port, maximizing its advantages”, said Omar Vega, head of TPV operations.

It is expected that, in the coming days, 2 ships of the same type will dock: the Demeter Leader and the RCC Compass, which will add a total of 2,500 vehicles, which will contribute to economic reactivation and the generation of new jobs for the port city.
